Gujarat's Semiconductor Surge: Inside the ₹1.24 Lakh Crore Tech Ecosystem
With the recent inauguration of the ₹7,600 crore CG Semi OSAT facility in Sanand, alongside operational units from Micron and Kaynes, Gujarat is rapidly cementing its status as India's premier semiconductor manufacturing hub.
The expansion of India’s semiconductor industry is no longer a future projection—it is actively rolling off the production lines in Gujarat. With a total investment pipeline of ₹1.24 lakh crore driving the state's Semiconductor Mission, the manufacturing landscape across Sanand and Dholera is undergoing a historic transformation.
Sanand: The Operational OSAT Hub
In July 2026, the ₹7,600 crore CG Semi Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility was officially inaugurated in Sanand. This joint venture—uniting India's CG Power, Japan's Renesas Electronics, and Thailand's Stars Microelectronics—marks a massive leap in domestic chip manufacturing.
The Sanand facility is engineered to produce 1.5 crore chips per day, scaling toward an ambitious target of 500 crore units annually. More importantly, CG Semi is not operating in isolation. Sanand GIDC is now a certified semiconductor cluster, with OSAT facilities from global players like Micron Technology and Kaynes Semicon already operational.
Dholera: The Heavyweight Fab Anchor
While Sanand handles the critical assembly and testing phases, the Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR) is securing the foundational fabrication layer. The Tata Electronics semiconductor fab in Dholera is currently in an advanced stage of construction. Expected to be India's first commercial foundry, this facility will form the nucleus of a comprehensive electronics value chain, positioning the state to capture significant global market share.
The Downstream Economic Multiplier
The activation of these mega-plants is triggering a massive downstream economic multiplier across urban Gujarat.
- Employment: The semiconductor sector in the state is projected to generate over 50,000 jobs, with the CG Semi plant alone expected to create more than 5,000 opportunities over the next five years.
- Allied Industries: The presence of operational fabs and OSATs requires a deep localization of supply chains. This creates highly lucrative contracts for regional MSMEs specializing in equipment maintenance, specialized logistics, and raw material supply.
- Real Estate: The influx of a highly skilled, global workforce is accelerating demand for premium residential and commercial real estate in both the Ahmedabad-Sanand corridor and the Dholera SIR.
The Bottom Line
Gujarat is no longer just assembling products; it is manufacturing the core components that drive the global digital economy. For businesses, developers, and investors in the region, aligning with this ₹1.24 lakh crore ecosystem is the most critical strategic imperative of the decade.
